Cagayan de Oro City – Elements of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office successfully arrested suspect of Basag Kotse (Car Break-in) incident that transpired around 3:00 PM of May 12, 2024 at CM Recto Highway, Kolambog, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Based on report of Police Colonel SALVADOR N RADAM, City Director of COCPO to Police Brigadier General RICARDO G LAYUG JR., Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10, it was revealed that on the said time, date and Place of operation, PMSg Danilo Paredes Calurasan Jr., a police personnel assigned at the Capitol University Medical City (CUMC) Police Assistance Desk (PADS), called for backup assistance regarding a car break-in incident that occurred at CM Recto Highway, Kolambog, Lapasan, this City, wherein one suspect was then apprehended after pursuing him.

Further said in his report, that personnel of Police Station 3 Agora immediately responded to the reported location. The investigation revealed that the victim, M********* Z********, had caught two suspects, a certain xxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxx and an unidentified individual, in the act of using an ice pick to smash the right side window portion of the passenger door of his Isuzu utility vehicle pickup, color Mica, bearing plate number KCB667.

The suspects gained access to the vehicle and stole cash amounting to PHP 16,000.00 from the dashboard.

The victim confronted the suspects, the identified suspect stabbed him twice in the chest. Fortunately, the victim managed to evade the thrust of the knife by quickly sidestepping. The other suspect pointed a gun at him. The same victim manage to sought assistance from nearby people, causing the suspects to panic. The unidentified suspect with a gun managed to escape onboard a Yamaha NMAX violet-colored motorcycle, while the other suspect attempted to flee on foot. The victim together with the help of concerned citizens, pursued the suspect, who was eventually cornered in sitio Fatima, seaside, Kolambog, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, PCOL Radam added.

The responding police personnel manage to subdue the suspect after a prolonged struggle, as he fought back using an icepick. The suspect sustained injuries as a result of his own actions and the force required to restrain him.

The arrested suspect was a 53 years old, married, driver, a member of BAHALA GANG, resident of 102 5 Ave Baltazar St. Grace park Caloocan City while the other suspect was unidentified.

Police Colonel Radam, City Director of COCPO has directed Police station 3, 4, 5 and 10 to conduct hot pursuit and follow-up operation for the possible apprehension of the fleeing suspect.

“I commend the bravery of the victim who immediately sought police assistance present in area, likewise, the presence of the concerned citizens, as well as the swift response of COCPO personnel which paves the way to the immediate arrest of suspect, added Police Colonel SALVADOR N RADAM, CD, COCPO.

The arrested suspect will be brought to hospital for medical attention.
