Cagayan de Oro City- Police Colonel SALVADOR N RADAM, City Director of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) stands firm that no kidnapping incident occurs here in the city of gold.
Based on the conduct of investigation and validation among the uniformed COCPO personnel particularly of Police Station 7 on the allege kidnapping incident in Brgy. Canitoan in one of the educational institution in the area dated January 20, 2025. It was found out that the said incident was baseless and was spread out in social media due to irresponsible posting to media platform of one teacher in the same educational institution. On the other hand, on the recent alleged kidnapping incident at Capistrano st. this city, it was again found out that the said social media posting which caught so much attention among the citizens and the public was baseless. Upon validation to the veracity of the report, personnel of Police Station 1 found out that no kidnapping occurs in the same area. In order to clarify the same issue, the personnel responsible in posting in social media voluntarily made a public apology in order to cast out fear, worries among the citizens and the general public.
Col RADAM condemns these irresponsible actions of some netizens pertaining to posting to social media of any unvalidated information on any alleged kidnapping incidents and other negative reports in the city that will cause panic and inflict fear and worries among the citizens in the community especially those parents who have their children admitted in different school in the city.
He emphasize that these irresponsible actions of some individuals has partially tainted the PNP’s primary efforts in maintaining peace and order and in ensuring the safety of every citizens in the community and tarnish the reputation of the city of CDO as the city of Golden Friendship.
Col Radam further emphasize, regardless of the intention of posting to social media of any reports/issues, primarily, it should not be posted in any media platforms but instead, report first to the nearest police authorities/station in your AOR and Police Assistance Desk located in area of convergence in the city in order to allow the PNP officials to conduct validation on the veracity of the report/issues and incur no further damage to the citizenry and the PNP organization.
City Director urges the public to be vigilant at all times and jointly, let us fight these criminal elements in the community and topple them down together.
Let us all stands firm, and put your trust to your Higalang Pulis COCPO in any difficult and doubtful situation and allow the PNP especially our men in uniform on the ground to be mobilized. We have our COCPO personnel who are conducting overlapping check point in many areas in the city, likewise, our COCPO Force Multipliers are always available ready for immediate assistance.
