Cagayan de Oro City – Police Colonel Salvador N RADAM, Officer-In-Charge of COCPO has made an appeal to the general public to be a responsible gun owners and observe existing laws, particularly on RA 10591 in relation to the Comelec gun ban. This was in relation to the recent arrest of certain E**es*o A. A*o*a** (Security Guard), married, 36 y. o, a resident of Santiago, Agusan del Norte that transpired on September 18, 2023, at 1:35 PM at Zone 4, Brgy. Bugo Border Check Point (BCP), Cagayan de Oro City.

The Official has recalled that the Simultaneous Comelec checkpoint was launched on August 28, 2023, at 12:01 am in relation to the Barangay and Sagguniang Kabataan Election 2023 (BSKE 2023) of which the event signals the start of the Comelec gun ban up until thirty (30) days after the election day on October 30, 2023 (Monday).

COCPO Chief cited the City Mobile Force personnel particularly the Bugo Border Checkpoint team led by Police Captain Johnreal Dela Cerna, BCP Team Leader under the supervision of Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil M Agpaoa, Force Commander
on the conduct of Checkpoint Operation in relation to COMMELEC GUN BAN which resulted to the arrest of said violators. He added, that the investigation revealed that the suspect on board a SUZUKI smash 125 MC with a TEMPORARY plate number, Upon approaching to Bugo BCP, CMFC personnel saw and observed that the suspect is carrying a sling bag, colored green, and was partially open, and the handle of a handgun appearing to his sling bag. CMFC BCP personnel immediately ask the suspect to open the sling bag( color green) by himself, revealing a caliber .38, without serial # and 6 live ammunition.

CMF COCPO personnel conducted an inventory of confiscated firearms and ammo while the suspect was informed of his rights under the law.

The suspect, Motorcycle, and the firearm and ammo were brought to PUERTO Police station for further disposition while the case for violation of R.A. 10591in relation to the COMMELEC GUN ban is being prepared for filing before the prosecutor’s office.
