Yesterday, personnel from Police Station 6, Puerto, under the leadership of Police Colonel Salvador N. Radam, City Director of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), encountered an elderly individual carrying a bolo. The individual, a member of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community from San Fernando, Bukidnon, was respectfully advised by the officers to conceal the weapon to avoid causing public alarm.
To clarify a report aired on Magnum Radio regarding an alleged arrest, Police Station 6 confirms that no arrest was made. The individual was merely advised to conceal the bolo. This action reflects PS6’s awareness of and respect for the rights and traditions of Indigenous Peoples.
Recognizing the cultural significance of the bolo within the IP community—and being a native of San Fernando himself—CD Radam commended the officers for their culturally sensitive and compassionate handling of the situation. Their actions exemplify the principles of community-oriented policing.
CD Radam further emphasized the importance of honoring and understanding the culture of the Lumad/Indigenous Peoples, having grown up in the same community himself. His deep personal connection to their way of life continues to guide his leadership approach in promoting respectful and inclusive law enforcement.
