CDO HIGHWAY ACCIDENT DEATH TOLL NOW EIGHT, WHILE 13 OTHERS SERIOUSLY INJURED
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Three more died (Dead on Arrival at the Hospital) in the terrible Brgy. Agusan CM Recto highway accident dawn on Monday December 5, 2022 that caused the instantaneous death of five persons and seriously injured 16 others.
PCOL AARON M MANDIA, City Director of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, confirmed today that eight passengers of the (bongo) truck died in the road mishap, one of the worst accident in the city.
The accident involved a Fuso Tabular Cargo Truck with Plate number MCZ 986, driven by Julito J. Telen 43 years old, married, a resident of P-12, Baloy
Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City and a Kia Bongo with Plate number KC 73490, driven by Alvin Escabarte,(dead on the spot) 40 years, resident of Tagoloan, Misamis
Oriental, with 20 passengers composed of 11 adults and 9 minors, all residents of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
Based on initial investigation conducted by Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) COCPO, both vehicles traversing at CM Recto highway moving in opposite direction.
Fuso Truck is moving coming from Barangay Puerto heading west towards City Proper with live chicken cargo while Bongo Truck moving towards east from City proper going home to Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, full of passengers mostly relatives/family members travelled from Zamboanga del Sur after attended the burial of their relative.
Upon reaching particularly at Brgy. Agusan, Highway, CDOC both vehicles collided, and incured damages on the affected contact portion resulted to the instant death of 5 persons including the Bongo Driver declared by the rescuing personnel of 911, also a fatal and serious injury of other 16 passengers.
Three Out of 16 persons brought at the hospital of Northern Mindanao Medical Center were declared Dead on Arrival by the attending physician due to fatal physical injury, while 13 others succumb Serious Physical injuries.
The driver of Fuso Cargo Truck voluntarily surrender and is now under custody at Police Station 6 Puerto.
The City Director said, LTO and COCPO were always partners on implementing the Republic Act 4136 Sections 32 and 51 and the memorandum from LTO National Office dated September 18, 2019, Prohibition in the operation of motor vehicles exceeding the registered passenger capacity and/or with passengers riding outside of the vehicle at the space intended for cargo/freight thru the road safety and advocacy activities of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, City Mobile Force Company, Mobile Patrol Unit and the training/deputization division of LTO Region-10.
PCOL MANDIA added, that travelers who violates this traffic law usually travels at night or during dawn in order not to be intercepted by the checkpoints and authorities and mostly results terrible incidents that losses life and properties not only in the city but also on the other neighboring areas.
The CDOs top cop urges the public to refrain from violating the above-cited law to avoid not only penalties and charges but also the possible loss of life and serious injuries.
